Selection of wool study projects and general spin

Feb.12

Sue McFarland workshop-Combing

This will be very exciting!!! Sue is full of energy and enthusiasm, and I'm sure she will inspire us all. She will come with combs and her book on combing, etc. Her fee is very reasonable at $275 for the day. If we collect $20 from each person, we will be in good shape. Bring your carders for comparison of a carded rolag to combed top. The guild will provide fiber for the day.

Feb. 25-27

Guild Retreat

We had to arbitrarily select a date. Last time we tried this, we quickly found out not everyone who wanted to, could come, no matter what date we looked at. So, we just picked Fri., Feb.25-Sun., Feb. 27. Whoever can make it, wonderful!!! Here is the information on the hotel:

Lighthouse Inn
1515 Memorial Drive
Two Rivers, WI 54241
(800) 228-6416

Call and make your own reservations. If we mention that we are Hollow Tree Spinners, they will put us together, I'm sure. The place has a great restaurant and a wonderful Sun. brunch. We will also plan a trip to Valders, Wis. (about 10 minutes away) to Hidden Valley Farm and Carding Mill. I will need to call Carol Wagner and let her know how many of us are coming. The carding contraption is really cool! The other place we have to go is Beernsteen's Ice cream Parlor. I grew up in Manitowoc and had eventful times and many memories here. It's an old-fashioned ice cream parlor with wooden booths, wooden display cases, high ceiling fans, etc. They have chocolate that I feel is better than Fanny Mae, and their chocolate malts are sinful! Pick a partner to share a room with, mark your calender, and call for reservations. You can come for both nights, or just one. If you can't get up there on Fri., come up Sat. morning! I know it will be fun.

Mar.11

Wool study presentations (3) and general spin

Apr.8

Knitting Machine Workshop with our very own Robin Gendusa

As most of us are knitters, this will be very interesting and new to most of us. I know at least one of us has a knitting machine still in the box because she doesn't know how to use it. Robin will give us a demonstration, and there will be yarn available for us to try. We will ask a nominal fee for Robin's time and effort.

June 10

Dye study-Queen Anne's Lace and general spin

Dye Days - June, July and August - I guess we're doing yellows and greens! Each person will be asked to bring their own dye-stuffs for their fiber. The rule of thumb for all plant materials for wool in a medium color is 1 lb. dye-stuff for 1 lb. of wool (So, 4 oz. for 4 oz.), etc. We will need to dye 4 oz. each time, and then, in Aug., we will have an indigo pot going, as well. We'll keep 2 oz. of each yellow, and dye 2 oz. of each yellow in the indigo pot. Then we can see what greens each yellow brings! The guild is planning to buy a flat or two of Marigold plants in the spring. Each person will get several plants and grow their own. With marigolds, you can pick as the blooms appear, record the fresh weight, and then freeze or dry the flowers and use them at a later date.

Here's something new! I know I have never done locker-hooking! Right now we haven't worked out the details about materials, etc, but we will let you know in plenty of time.
